Who We Are
Stewards. Explorers. Scientists.
Rewild Trust is founded on the idea that positive relationships with nature are created by having positive experiences in nature. We believe in a world where people can reconnect with ecologically vibrant spaces and better witness the services and diversity nature sustains, helping us better understand the importance of coexistence and the need to reestablish habitat and wildlife in human-dominated environments.
Our mission is to protect and restore landscapes where people can see and experience nature on private lands in a post-industrial world. Through our work, we expand opportunities for stewardship, interaction, and immersion. By increasing habitat and wildlife populations, we stimulate local economies, support empirical research, improve human-nature relationships, and provide more spaces to get outside, have fun, and stay active and healthy.
What We Do
Conservation Easements,
Replanting, Reintroductions
Recreation & Scientific Research.
Our mission occurs through a three step process:
1.
Acquire property through donations and real estate transactions
Investing time into fundraising, outreach, and awareness building, Rewild Trust purchases land and signs lease agreements to attain property for rest and restoration.
2.
Protect and regenerate its biological assets
Once the acquisition process is complete, Rewild Trust conducts natural resource surveys and biological remediation efforts to unlock the property's potential for native plant and animal conservation.
3.
Showcase, play, and study the natural beauty
As the property grows in its functional diversity and ecological beauty, guests and donors of Rewild Trust are then offered private access to photoblinds, small cabins, and other accommodations to relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of our natural heritage.
Rewild Trust is all about the "re-." Re-store, re-establish, re-introduce, re-search, re-create. Our non-profit organization sets out to re-connect and re-energize our relationship with the nature we've built and consumed ourselves out of. We bring back and increase native plant and animal populations to support the health of ecosystems, mitigate the loss of biodiversity, and bring mystery, adventure, and wild back into our urban lives.
Led by a collaborative board, Rewild Trust works with students, universities, private landowners, businesses, organizations, and government agencies to generate financial and natural capital that supports the revitalization of imperiled species and degraded spaces.
After a dedicated phase of fundraising, the Rewild Trust board selects and purchases land. From there, we facilitate the legal designation of the property into conservation status, obtain the necessary permits for wildlife rearing, and then undertake the physical work of constructing and managing improved habitat and wildlife populations that visitors can come and enjoy.
We are a team of scientists, deeply dedicated to preserving our shared natural history. Together, with the help of rural communities, urban residents, and travelers from around the world, it is our hope to intervene in the extinction crisis and create a better planet for all inhabitants.
